Liability for content
As a service provider, we are responsible under § 7 para 1 DDG for our own content on these pages in accordance with general law. However, under §§ 8 to 10 DDG, we are not obliged to monitor transmitted or stored third-party information or to investigate circumstances that indicate unlawful activity. SchlüsselBot transmits encrypted user content. In Secure delivery mode, that content is technically not visible to the provider (zero knowledge). In the default Simple mode and for receiving secure inboxes, the key briefly passes through the server but is neither stored nor logged; provider access is therefore not technically impossible in those modes. Receiving secure inboxes additionally require an email code and account passkey when opened. See the Security page for details. Users remain solely responsible for the content they submit. A notice-and-action procedure is available at abuse (at) schluesselbot dot de.
Liability for links
Our offer may contain links to external websites of third parties, whose content we have no influence over. We cannot guarantee the accuracy of these external contents. The respective provider or operator of the linked pages is always responsible for their content.
Copyright
The content and works created by the provider on these pages are subject to German copyright law. Reproduction, modification, distribution, and any form of use outside the scope of copyright require the written consent of the respective author or creator.
Security and usage notes
These notes explain how SchlüsselBot protects your data and what you should pay attention to. They complement the Terms and the Privacy policy.
How SchlüsselBot works
- Encryption in your browser (when using the website). Your content (text and files) is already encrypted on your device before reaching our servers. The key is available only behind the
#of the link and is never stored by us never stored. Whether it reaches us at all depends on the chosen delivery method – see the next point. - Two sending types – you choose before each send. Default is “Simple”: We assemble the ready-made link and email it. The key briefly passes through our server during this process; we do not store or log it, but technically it is not ruled out that it could be read in this way not . With Secure, the key never reaches us: you transmit the link with the key yourself via another channel (messenger, SMS, in person), and we only send the one-time code. Only here is eavesdropping technically impossible.
- One-time code as proof of possession. When the recipient clicks the link, they request a one-time code, which we send to their email address. The message is only released and decrypted after the one-time code has been entered.
- Self-destruction. Plain text messages are deleted immediately after retrieval. Attachments are delivered immediately upon retrieval and remain in the recipient's browser; they are retained on the server for no more than 10 minutes after first retrieval. Unretrieved messages are automatically and irreversibly deleted no later than 48 hours; in paid plans, according to the retention period selected at send time, up to a maximum of seven days.
What you need to pay attention to
- We cannot recover anything. If the link, the key, or the one-time code is lost, the content is permanently lost. This is intentional — we cannot technically read or restore your content.
- Correct recipient address. Carefully check the email address. A typo may result in a third party receiving the notification.
- Do not forward the link and key together. Never share the key via the same channel as the link.
- Delivery method "Secure" for sensitive content. Select "Secure" when sending: Then we never see your key, and you personally forward the link — via messenger, by phone or in a meeting. Only this way are the link and one-time code not located in the same inbox. Receiving inboxes are instead protected by email code and account passkey; the key is processed temporarily only for delivery purposes.
- Never share one-time code over the phone. SchlüsselBot will never ask you for your one-time code by phone. Anyone who does is attempting to deceive you.
